We all got together at home and had a party for Samuels 19th, it was a full house so we cashed in on the time and since Ben and Neha were here we cut up their venison that was hanging in the chiller well into the night. The following day Samuel and Natalie caught some good size perch that were great for tea that night.
I have been sorting sheep and pigs for the abattoir, looks like the year has started. I have been sorting sheep mobs for tupping while I'm at it as its not long before the main mob need mating.
The Manuka is in flower and the male hemp plants are starting to head up. The hemp crop is very interesting the height varies heaps as the fertility of the paddock is so different. About 20% grew spuds last season and as potatoes and hemp are both nightshades the hemp is not doing so well there. But where the paddock had compost heaps for pumpkins the hemp is huge. This is what the test crop is about, a learning curve.
Ila has been catching and selling wild goats and doing quite well out of them. At the moment she is on a leadership course somewhere (all we get is the bill ha).
Went to the movies and watched 'Life of Pi ' now that was an interesting one.
Ned and I took the truck on the road up to Piopio and met Olive and Graham who bought a trio of Wiltshire horn sheep from me. It has been a long deal in the making as they live a further 4 hours up north and to sort cartage was a nightmare so we carted them half way. Nice people I'm sure the sheep will do well.
We stayed at Kyren and Robins overnight getting to their place about 4. WHAT a fantasic meal we had. My old mate Peter Holbrook and his wife came and it was really great to see everyone and talk old times. We called at Peters the following day and spent most of the day looking at his paintings and old stock, horse and gypsy books. We made Avonstour about 6.
