From the Farm

We have made it to after the shortest day and our fallow still stands untouched Great. But with all the rain and now frosts won't be long. The Dorset horns mob has about 49 lambs so far, about half way so we need all the grass we can get and it won't grow much for 100 days now and we still have the Damaras and Wiltshires. The Dutch belted cows all have calves, we have two litters of Canterbury blues so there is a population explosion out here. And so many Frosts O no iv spilled my coffie over my key board ....Hang on I will get cloth ...Um its going faster ......must be the Caffeine .Anyway yes frosts I am just shaking thinking about this that's why I spilled my coffee. Augie the Canadian just went swimming in swimming pool we dug for the kids with the drain digger on the shortest day frost with ice on top ARRR I'M starting to shake again.
The mornings have low fog sitting in the hollows as we have had zero wind, the morning fire in the house of poplar and manuka wood pumps great smelling smoke that just won't disappear as we work around with the tree leaves all over the ground. Well its full on now WINTER and its not getting better for a while.
Just got some photos from a rarebreed farm in the south island belonging to Diane Kelly who has llamas for track work and much more. She is totally flooded out. WINTER don't ya love it.
The two French couples have moved on we will miss them and the music. Eloise the Quebec butcher is still here but on light duties as last week at the market we were unloading the market freezer and it slipped catching her finger between the freezer and the ute could have taken it off but its fine. Well after getting Justin up and the hospital sewing it up. She did flake out and I had to pick her off the concrete and on top of that she was sick on Justin (who I hear is the model standard for her south island man she is looking for Ha ha Not many men like Justin, Single in the south island with the man drought I would say.
We have a American volunteer Ann who is now up at the house truck. She is fitting in real well speaks French so can act as an interpreter with Eloise. She is only a bit bigger than Ila and I keep mixing them up.
The pump needed attention again and the tanks were MT. I had to bleed the system, got to the house after spending all day on it undid the intake pipe and a big chunk of the house copper pipe fell on the ground complete with t intersections feed to the hot. Water flowing out so water onto the fire so the wet back would not burn out as we have a very efficient hot flow system in the Pyroclassic and it WOULD burn out. The combination of our well water and frosts just finished that bit of pipe and I had to phone the plumber. Another Bill.
I have started the steps to Ruth's classroom I really want that signed off with the Building inspector But with all the rain its hard to know which job to do first. Need more hours.
Did my speech at the Breakfast toastmasters. It went well got a few laughs in fact I forgot to put laugh time in and went over my time by 3 Min (sorry Lee) but got good feedback. I am time keeper next week and THAT'S NOT ME And I just don't have a show to do the fantastic job that we had this week. So clear cut and well presented with the Bell right on Q.
The market was a real slow one. We really need to look at other options for farm income as we are all working so hard... long hours ...more courses ..more hemp,,maybe.
