Another week at Avonstour and another 2 woofers Moss and Jo. Moss is an Australian guy and Jo a German girl, they are a couple and both vegetarian ..........yes i know we don't take Vegetarians ....But yes ..but Moss has done some building work and Jo likes to cook. Dee's Intern is starting today as well Dee is bringing her out to tea. So we are getting on with it all again.
Forgot to tell you last week Ila was asked to take her 3 red eared turtles to the Stratford Library for a pet day there was rabbits, chooks, a baby kune pig, a pup, lots of people but Ila and her Turtles took the show. The children just loved them.
Went to breakfast Toastmasters what a great start to a Friday morning. We have a real good laugh. If you need an uplift like this please talk to me about it. I then when onto Egmont seeds to pick up our Hemp seed that had been cleaned and tested for viability. I got a tour of the whole factory they are large seed importers and pack for all the BIG seed sellers that work on the 80 ..20 principle... corner 80% of the market with 80% of the product and forget the 20% of slow or unusual products. That cuts out most organic and heritage growers, but when i look at the huge financial input, the sheer cost of some of the seed sorting machines more than 4 farms ............Makes the Avonstour seed saving pretty insignificant. The owner and the staff were great.
The starlings are back with every vehicle with a nest under the bonnet and some rebuilding as fast as we clean them out such strong wee workers. I just wish they would find a home somewhere else.
Had a visit from Petra a Hawera star reporter who is doing an article on our open day on Nov 2. I think it will be a great article.
I was in Stratford the other day and the demolition crew with a huge drain digger was pulling down the Taranaki Farmers building. Taranaki Farmers were once Farmers Co-op started way back from a farmers group that grew and grew, that eventually blew out from bad investments as it got very big .....I wonder how the original foundation members would feel now with a planned Burger King on the site ....Some say thats progress. I for one feel its the opposite a backward step. The small eating cafes will suffer. Tourist visitors will miss out on the local thing ......Umm the slick spreads.
I have been on the phone about our industrial hemp licence that is stuck on a desk in Wellington and we need to get it in the ground. We have the seed drill booked in, the ground is ready, I just hope this Bureaucratic slow down won't affect the crop timing too much.
And yes you missed Folk House it was great. AND then the storm hit us the Makuri broke its banks, the pigs in the paddocks had all their houses flooded out, the geese eggs floated away, the ground is covered with small green plums, the blossom gone off the apples BUT still the grass grows and we have all the shelter for the stock, we even had a few hoggets lamb and they are fine.
So i did get time to hang a door and start some finishing work, gib stopping, on the Studio but as the work grows for the open day i am going to get behind.
Well at least the TV is not working and the teens and volunteers can't keep me up. O thats Right i forgot to Buy a free view Box HA ....It will be great when the common room is done ..Yes i know ...Thats a long way away.
