I have just said goodbye to our last Wwoofers Moss and Joana. They both worked well and were very interesting firstly they were both vegetarian in fact Moss who stood over 6 foot 6 with red hair had never ever eaten meat. He did once try to eat a fish he caught but could not get it down. In his younger days he travelled across the Australian desert with his father with a Camel Train. His income to raise funds to get to NZ was Ticking. This is catching ticks that are very poisonous and when they attach to a dog or even a human in 24 hours paralysis sets in and death is then inevitable.
The vets buy the ticks for $2 50 each to make anti serum. Moss's record take in one day is $1000 and he knows people who have made $40,000 in the 3 month season for ticking. The thing that amazed me was Moss never had to leave the 4 hectares he lived on for his ticking.
We managed to get some gib stopping on the Studio done and i got one room finished with the Wallarobba and finishing work all done ready for painting.
Moss was a great help for this. Jo his girlfriend is a very good cook and looked after the house. The garden looks heaps better with our first planting of seedlings from Nashnui and Christine has swapped us some heritage plants. The gardens are very important as with our meat this is how we support wwoofing.
We have a new American Wwoofer Anna who is fitting in well keen on livestock and has helped us get the donkeys in and trim some feet.
I forgot to mention a month ago we eventually got some that got into the back forest that wintered there. These missed the last foot trimming and some had long feet so it was great to get them trimmed.
We have been sorting sheep and i fly crutched the Dorset horn flock ...sorting all the others into breeds for the open day I shore the Pitt islands and some of the Gotlands. I am doing long hours at the moment to get all sorted for the open day.
We have a new pony foal A really nice patchy colt who is out or a half bred Gypsy mare. We also have a new Donkey foal and more lambs, a new belted calf, an odd clutch of chickens are coming out, so its all go here.
Well i better go as i need to hang up a sheep and pluck some chickens for the house as we have two new Wwoofers starting to day and i need ta feed em.
Still Waiting for the hemp licence Blaaaaa
