it looks like Summer is here and the sweet chest nut is telling me so as the trees are starting to leaf up and the rugosa roses are flowering a sure sign we are into this season .
There is a plum tree right out of my bedroom window that has i would say grown from a stone i have put out the window some time .A black bird has made nest from dry grass moss and bits of wool shed from the Wiltshire horn sheep .The plum tree is close to the house and i can open my window to look in the nest ,it has gone from empty to 3 blue/ green eggs today. I will keep ya posted on progress.
Ila was tidying the veranda and could hear chicks and behind the stable door was a wee brown red modern game hen, I had seen her from time to time cleaning up the dog bowl on the veranda, she even came in the house once ..............any way there she was snug in the small wedge shape gap between the door and the house maybe 4 inches to nothing sitting on 6 pure bred chicks Gray/blue with long legs, completely happy for us to have a good look pick her and the chicks up and put them in a cage on the lawn ..
The donkey count is up as we have had a number of foals of all breeds. The one that i was hoping to have a jenny was Pixie a white miniature ,but she has a jack foal very petite/fine bone, white with a small patch on his back big ears and fine face features ...Also have a few Ponui island greys with the cross ...and two patchy English.
I am every day working on the studio.
Ila and the new Woofer V (i call her V as i cant remember if her name is Veronica or Vanessa ) she is German and fitting in well and although she has never worked stock she has stock sense, have been sorting and drafting the Wiltshire Horn Sheep for drys and the non shedders. Now that was hard as our flock is 99% full wool shedding. But she did find two and two Drys for house meat .
Well when i killed them it was apparent why they were dry (not in milk) as they were full mouth wethers............Ha ..... that gave us 100% ewes with lambs WOW what a season .
I have not had a lamb count but there are heaps of twins .
Had a few people calling on the farm Craig Nolly, was one of them to talk insurance. I have to say if I can be sold insurance you could sell sand to a desert traveler. He did have a kombucha with me and talked on local names .
After i called in on Ross who is in fact Craig cousin ,...........................................But its a big family and they are poles apart not had contact since school i think. Any way i near drove past as the place had changed so much Wow so much work done ..Looking so good ....Trees in ..trees out ..Orchards in ...(and looking like it going to feed him this well this year )
I then drove to Janine and Rods picking up fi on the way for a BBQ and bush walk .Had a good look at the new house foundations (that is looking fantastic).
The bush walk was as good as any have been on .You know its just great to be with a group of like minded people .
After we had a BBQ with wild Deer and blueberry sausage from us brought ages ago and heaps of all sorts of food from everyone .
We all sat around a outside log fire it was great ...Ila also came, the youngest there ....the rest of us had at least 10 years on her?( bar Julia and Martin ) with most 30 years older
And Ila walks in with a crochet hook sits down like grandma making a wool blanket ....On me saying this she just looked up and said well I'm the adult one in our house hold as you are stuck in your teens .
Umm well Partly true spoze. We will be doing much more of this in the future .
One of my best frends said some of my news letters in past had been a bit down ,blue ,and pointing out the hard bits .....Well this newsletter is a diary of myself and my life, the history of Avonstour .....warts and all
I do miss lots out but lots ,,,are to jog my memory for the future, I'm also trying to write as i speak .........(sorry i only got 13% for English at sckool Ha ..........95 for science )...'
I do want involvement and your feed back on this ........
