Well its one o clock and its just too hot to work, so I'm doing this and catch up on outside work tonight in the cool. We have gone from Hay there' a fly must be going ta warm up to ..........Dam flies sick of em its to hot ........
Been a busy week as always I ran a day course for Dee's Witt organic night class and this is always a good one as the people are great, Dee is organized and we cover a lot.
The farmers Market on Curry street was very busy with people lots of new faces. Don't ya just love Summer. More stalls more people. But its a funny time everyone hanging on to the cash.... But it WILL come.
Spent 2 days in Wellington at the Future Farming Conference. It was a full on two days covering many things, corporate farming, share farming with overseas farm sales and who is buying, who wants to, who is lending, risk management, succession planning, valuations, branding and more. Lots of speakers.
I have to say the best speakers for me were the Maori as they had a more overall approach to people food and the land... With money not being the main thing but the health of the land and people. With Quotes like “We used to be the Neighbours From Hell ............NO LONGER .....”
The borrowing of farmers from banks to become mega big, was mind blowing for me. The smaller family farm is in big trouble ...................those days are all but gone. Into the corporate farming enterprise funded from off shore, to supply ...................well not NZ for sure. I have to say it was well worth the two days filled, many gaps for me.
Was in New Plymouth for lunch to celebrate Fiona getting her Chartered Accountant exam after 9 months of study, long hours, hard work going back way before this. But now she’s a CA, so we were celebrating in the ART CAFE in Top Town just up the steps at the back above the Chiropractor. I have to say both the service and food was fantastic. Great surroundings with art for sale, I will be back.
We had our Toastmasters End of year meal in the Lone Star, the place was so full we could hardly hear the person next to us.
The nest just out of my bedroom window, that has turned out to be a thrush, has hatched and the mother is carting food to her chicks all day, the chicks are growing so fast.
Along with Hank we have a English couple just started to Wwoof, Rick and Heather keep ya posted on updates.
The studio is coming along slowly just need 5 of me. Samuel has given Ruth a large L shape stainless steel bench and Rick is helping sort the kitchen, while Heather is looking after the house and some poultry.
Ila, Hank and I are full on with farm work ETC.......... Ben and Neha came out with Phoenix to cut up a fallow deer Ben had shot ....
