Well just had a fantastic lunch wild pork that Ila shot with all home grown veg and salad. It has sure filled me up and I have the Dorset horns in the shed, shearing a few ewes as they have started to lamb and if to many have lambs I rather not keep getting them in. I am a very slow shearer but i'm probably the oldest one around this area at least . Anyway I will just keep at them until they are done may take a while. Any way its nice to see a few new lambs on the ground.
And yes we have had the rain and the grass is growing, lets hope it keeps going before the frosts come as it will stop for sure then. But we did get a good feed of mushrooms with lunch and I sure hope we get some more.
Two Canterbury blue sows have had litters and are cross feeding them so I think these will be growing into great pigs with a good start. They are now the centre of pets for Wwoofers now the pups are gone. I was wondering where Aubrey was with Fabian here they were looking into wee pig eyes each holding them like babies... And Aubrey saying to me can I take this one to bed ..its so cute.....Yes sure just move down to the pig house i'm sure they wont mind another mother ...but threes a crowd ya know.
The woofers are busy preparing and planting the gardens so we can get some winter food growing. Moose the French Woofer has move on to Wellington and on with his trip.
Ila has been working in the workshop building a dog house for the remaining Kelpie pup she is keeping. His name is Trev (from Fred dag ) he is already working sheep and he is just 8 weeks old.
Ila had been busy sending pups away some by plane some by road. I think the feed bill will go down now.
The market was busy this week the rain let it be. One of the comments are worth putting down I think ...Hay look George an older large lady called. There are some apples like we used to have around the old farm house before we burnt it down...Ha if i ever thought you could use them we could have moved a few, O well apples are cheap in the super market not worth taking up cow land George with Trees .........well I just stood and looked with my mouth open as they walked though the market prodding this and that ...buying nothing. You know its Education some people just don't get it, its about fresh local nutrient dense and most of all what happens in a event when there is no supermarket or milk tanker .....Food security ......Umm
So back to the shearing the boss is getting sick of me on the PC, ha that's what its like being self employed and living on spotty apples.
