From the Farm

Thunder lightning hail rain and more rain. Makuri in flood but strikingly warm for winter. The thunder has a very bad effect on hatching eggs so many of the eggs Ruth has sitting will be dead. This is on top of the fact the chooks are just finding it hard and the laying of eggs is really slow to start this season sort of a few then none then stop then go.
Samuel has been working for the farmer up the road fencing in the rain and thunder. I have been worried as he is digging with a steel handle spade up in the hills.
There is a certain change in the weather that nothing is liking or used to, even the popular trees still have leaves, yes its near mid July and the trees still have leaves.
ARRRR stop your moaning John its Winter.
Ross and I did a road trip to take a meat order south and called in on Rachel Rose living at the Quaker Centre in Whanganui. I was very impressed with the set up and the over all feel of the centre.
I spent Monday doing book work - GST accounts and more - I really need a full time secretary (one that can cook and clean would be good to so Ruth is happy as well).
Sorted lambs for the Bach restaurant with Sina and Elton and got them away. Sina helped to make gates to complete the back fence, we built them from a milled hard wood pile, made good strong gates.
Sina and Elton helped kill and pluck ducks and chickens for us to eat. Sina finished them with a hand razor ( now that's something new ).
Today we did our Organic Farm peer review, lots of book work for this and farm visits, I'm glad its done.
Well that's the week. John
