From the Farm

28 February 2012
Can you believe it, the end of summer when did it start? Everything is totally wacky - last week we got a good feed of field mushrooms IN FEBRUARY. The rain last week finished the plums and the ground is covered with them - the pigs and chooks love it and at least that will make good natural meat.
It has been a real busy week getting things in order for the open day and on top of that we had a run down the line with deliveries meeting in Whanganui. Ross came down for the drive and we got talking about some new ideas.
It was also my birthday and i got some great stuff (some gone now) Ruth got me scotch whiskey, Ila some nice cheese and other foods, Samuel a Mitre 10 card and Beate got me heaps of new socks and good ones, organic ground coffee for the plunger pot Justin and Aleena gave me a few weeks back. And Beate also got me a hand painted frying pan with a gypsy wagon going off into the sunset for the Shepherd's wagon.
The open day went real well. Ross came out to help, Beate looked after showing the pigs. People seemed to come in waves and as fast as we took one group around another lot would turn up for the round walk. Some only wanted to look at certain things others the whole job lot. So we will be doing that again as it gives us the opportunity to show interested people around all in one day as we are so busy normally visitors hold us up.
After the day we had a paddock party with a bonfire, fireworks, music for us and our good mates to mark the END of summer. Unfortunately there was so much on this week many could not make it and have asked for another ..........so maybe.
The blooming washing machine packed it in and do we have washing. So on to good old Trade Me picked up a good fisher and paykel that i picked up after the market, got it home, looked great, did one wash and it thought stuff this i'm used to easy city washing and stopped working as well (we get some Woofers like that). So yesterday i took a huge load into the laundrette in Stratford, filled every machine and $32 dollars later and a very bored John we are on top of it. So i'm off to New Plymouth today to take this one back and pick up another from the net. Used to be fine with the old push button jobs, last for years, but these plastic fantastic computer driven junk are useless.
Next week i'm clearing a spot in the Makuri stream and i must have a couple of big rocks somewhere lets see how that lasts.
Ruth has put the Billy with the goats so thats the end of the house milk. I have been sorting and swapping rams with the ewes for our breeding programs.
One of Beate's old friends came to stay last night - Barbs she has an undies business Lucky Undies. Well Ruth was lucky as she brought her some they are great 97%
merino wool YES WOOL I am really impressed - here is her website www.luckyundies.co.nz.
Now don't forget we do farm and land consultancy work so if you are looking or have land i can help.
