From the Farm

20 July 2012
Yes i know its winter but it is different this year, We started the week with hard white frosts, the ponds were frozen over, all the farm water was frozen and then the rain.
I don't know how many inches but all the flats we can see from the house next door were under water. The Makuri stream was just touching the bridge. It did go over the bridge years ago but we have since replaced it a foot higher. So this is more water than we have ever seen and we are right into lambing the main mob (thank goodness for hills and shelter). The grass even grew in the rain only to be burnt off today with yet another white frost. We are feeding out more hay due to the cold, our fallow is being eaten faster than other years.
Thank goodness for the Pyroclassic fire we have. Its 14 years old now, heats all our water, cooks many meals and heats the house. Virtually zero pollution and NZ made.
The bank has been ringing so we have decided to sell the Pyroclassic along with our ute, tractor and Ruth's mule, the Gipsy will have to go along with all the equipment we use to run the courses, tools and gardening gear. That should give us enough to send the kids to Uni and keep the bank from ringing for about 2 months. We will then go on the DOLE and have to buy all our food in and be totally reliant on the outside world ..............................

..................YER Right like thats going to happen.
This is why we went to the Asset Sale - it totally makes no sense at all except in the end NZ will be worse off and will be controlled even more by outside forces.
Anyway it was a good day. The thing that hit me was the mix of people - Blue, Red and Green, Young, Old, White, and Darker, Well-off and Not So Well-off, Grey Power were there as im a member, that was good, all could see selling assets is not the way. I was the Auctioneer who sold Jonathon's office block, bidding was strong from overseas with phone bids and it got up to billions and we also chucked in a few Sky Hawks and 4 prisons, the police force, oil and the biggest water and electricity. But the bid was unbeaten taken from a 6 year old girl..her Future....
Anyway I did make page two in the paper, have they not got an air brush Ha.
I do know there are going to be some very unhappy people in the Future and to counter that Beate has just finished her business plan. I will let her tell you about it in her words ....
"Hi there, some of you will know me already from having had a few sessions with me in the past. I work with people releasing cellular memory. This is the stuff that comes up when we are angry or upset for more than 30 seconds about something. Chances are whatever upsets us in the present triggers off a memory from a previous event. My job is to help you clear or neutralize this old event quickly. Believe it or not - so far everyone who has had a session with me in New Zealand has found it helpful. But of course it's best to speak to the people yourself. If you are interested, you can contact me for more information at beatesmirek@gmail.com"
And she still has to look after the pigs as they are looking SO GOOD and happy.
Did you see Ross in the paper on Wednesday? It was good to see him written about rather that him writing about someone else.
The Farmers Market was a washout, I counted 16 people in an hour, the rain was hard and i don't think any stall made their petrol money let alone the stall fee.
Sunday Beate is helping at the Farmers Market ........Justin is on a back slide on a slippery slope and its all fast down ...............He and Aleena are off skiing.
So seeing you Sunday with all your friends
My book of the week....English farming past and present R E Prothero.
Im loving it, very well researched and shows how farming has so changed (for the worst)
