Yes spring is on the way, looks like an early one, like close to 3 weeks ahead of last year (it did snow last year can you believe it). Lots of buds out, the fodder willow is away, all of these thunderstorms are like September. Had the Gotlands in early in the week, I was going to take a few dags off them just to tidy them up, but the shearing plant was on half mast - about all i needed under the current economic position. Look on trade me.... the cheapest rubbish plant $600 ..Oh no just have to wait. I'll get to fixing things in the workshop. Blooming heck all my electrical gear is on half mast !!!!!!!!! I KNOW the lightning has taken out a phase Whooh a easy $600. (I wish it was all that easy).
I have been water blasting the house truck and i ran out of water over there so a rethink and decided to pull up 500 metres of piping that had been in for 10 years and relay it around the bottom of the highest hill on the farm that our small Davis 300 pump had to pump over that hill and another. Fine if no one was washing out the pigs or the house using water for washing but when this happened No water over to the house truck. So after 2 days of digging, pulling up it was done and so was I, totally had it. You know I'm really missing the help from Samuel and Ila now they have cars and are working here and there. Labour is our biggest need and where do you find trained people like Sam and Ila?
In-between Ilas tight social calendar with her group she did have time to go to Betty at the Taranaki Orthodontist I have to say. Ilas teeth are coming on real well and it won't be long until the braces are off.
The market was slow this week due to the pony and trap weather but all the regulars came - without them we would find it real hard.
Ruth/Beate have 4 kid goats and 4 lambs on the bottle but the mother goats are very slow to come up in milk - its the wet weather - they spend all day in the shelter and not out eating grass. So we are still short of milk. Talking of Beate did you hear her Monday night on 100.4 the Most FM, she had an interview about her journey to here and her therapy, it was great.
O yes remember Gremlin the Euro pig we reared on the bottle last year - she turned one this week and had a litter of 6 herself, all good and she has turned out a good mother which is good as sometimes pet livestock often are hopeless mothers for some reason.
We have sorted the Wessex pigs up and now have 9 trash fallowing the proposed hemp paddock. They are really hoeing it up so thats great.
OUR PHONE has been out so sorry if you have been trying to leave a message please try again, its right now.
So from Avonstour in me leaky gumboots and the pouring rain
