Wow, the lock the gate meeting with Drew Hutton talking along with Teresa Goodin and Sarah Roberts really opened my eyes on what is happening with the oil mining industry. Unfortunately most people are not concerned unless it directly affects them. The three speakers were just normal people, in fact Sarah is a normal farmers wife in TARANAKI who has had to endure an oil well next door that has changed the family life, with no compensation as its not on their land. I will be talking to my local farmers.
Got home, Beate and Ruth met me, John that marry wessex sow is sick and she is due to farrow in a week or so. With the torch i went for a look and as if on queue she fell over and dropped dead. Blooming heck must be her heart .....she is full of pigs good job I'm a trained surgeon............. so out with me pocket knife and there were seven wee pigs a few squirming and a few not. Beate has got seven drinking but I'm not sure they will all make it as they are about 10 days prem .....A tree surgeon the same as a carpenter isn't it?
A blue moon and the end of winter but still heavy rain today and the geese are starting to lay and the nests are flooded out so its unlikely i will have any for sale.
The weather has gone mad it has even affected my eyes and nothing seems as it once was. I picked up the new phone book and my hands and fingers have got bigger and with even the most powerful glasses in the house i can only find a number i want with a very large magnifying glass. Wow i hope the bills shrink like that.
I have had the first lambs in for docking and the ram mob in for dagging (although the Wiltshire horns and hair sheep are starting to shed) and managed to pull something in my side. You know Ruth is right ....she says i need a personal assistant. Someone that can be with me all day help with this and that ...........
We went to the TSB show place to see "The Producer" after the Farmers Market. It was fantastic world class and did take the pain out of my side for a while and I think i found my personal assistant. Just the person - starts work about 11 keeps the place tidy. The name was Ulla of Scandinavian descent i think.
Went down to the River Traders Market in Wanganui. It was a good market sporting over 60 stalls with 3 bands playing, had a good look around spend heaps of time talking to stall holders......... on the way home called at the Hawera Market it was a good sunny day with good music and talked to Mike who was doing a great trade.
Ila spent a night shooting possums for the fur and sold it...... Got over $200. Aint it great.
The Farmers Market went well but we missed wooden man, he must have been producing somewhere else. After the market I had a radio interview with Glen Willard on 100.4 Most FM.......... We talked on many things just as it came nothing planned ...... You know stirred a bit ...... So may pay to listen next Monday night at 7 o'clock - THE BEAR 100.4 FM Earth watch.
The dogs are barking, someone's here, funny no car came up the track ...... Who is that at the door ..... Where did you come from ..... "Hi its Ian ...I'm on the track on the rail cart, want to come for a spin out to Tunnel one, we are clearing the track for the celebrity run". Too right i will grab me coat .... "Hey you drive John click this for forward this for reverse" ... seat belt on and off we went easy a five year old could drive this. The valley is totally different from the rail, a few wild hares, pheasants, wild grown fruit trees here and there from the odd apple core. Hey Ian this is fantastic she is a winner, this is going to be a big hit. "Yep i think so we have just got our website on stream and we are getting bookings". Great we need to promote the back country. Here is the tunnel Great ...........now you can't do this in the city or even out here but go onto www.forgottenworldadventures.co.nz and you can now.
