Title: 2 October 2013
Its trout fishing season start .......Ummm first i need some time I sure need a chill out ......i have been a bit grumpy... daylight saving just finished me. I need every hour i can get at the moment ...I did get a good chill evening on Tuesday when we went to Peter and Krissy Jacksons house concert where Martin Curtis was playing singing and reciting bush poetry. It was a fantastic night. The poems were great as was the singing. The two best songs for me were the well known song "Gin and Raspberry". I have a copy of Mike Harding singing this track over 20 odd years ago .......and I was playing it on the road down in Wellington in my van and i picked up two English hitch hikers and the first thing they said was........................" Hey love yer music man We have a copy back home by so and so" ................Well i just thought it was real old written .......but you know what Martin wrote it so i heard the original and loved it......... ..The second song i liked was a song i also knew "By the dry Cardrona" that was a poem written by James K Baxter and Martin put it to music. Now who says we don't have it in NZ ..have a look www.martincurtis.co.nz.
The apples are coming out in leaf, the Tuis are in the kowhai as that is a mass of flowers, the wild willow are well out and full of bees both honey and bumble bees. I was looking around the ewes and lambs last afternoon and when the sun went so did the honey bees but the bumble bees kept working till dark. We need to look after these important little critters the bees as in the long run they feed us. The plum trees are setting little plums thanks to the bees and it may be a plum year as there looks like lots.
The native nettles must be growing somewhere as i have seen a few Red Admiral Butterflies flitting here and there. Its the start of that great time when the place is alive with wildlife.
The Animates stand went well and I think the store will be well patronised. Our animals liked getting home Beatrice the kune pig of Beate fold was a bit like me GRUMPY and it was a good job i turned up to help load as no way was she going to go on the trailer ...............................But i was grumpy as well .........too bad ......I have dealt to lots of grumpy pigs ...
Augie looked after the Animates stand Sunday did well but did do something wrong ......He did not get a single phone number from the young women that were there .....Now he will get a telling from me Ha
Been sorting house meat as we have Wwoofers on the books and need ta feed em.
