Title: 8 April 2014
The road trip down the line for the buyers group went well but it did show
me how dry the lower north island is. We are real dry in the back country
against new Plymouth but once I got out of Hawera toward Wanganui it was
supper dry even the saved grass paddocks and the side of the roads just a
few broken sticks of seeded grass standing. No wonder the price of hay has
gone though the roof. The problem will get worse in winter as the grass
wont have time to grow so i'm real happy we fallow farm and have grass and
feed in bulk.
Yesterday Sunday we made hay the latest I have ever made it. With the
growing slower and the finances down I have just left it, but with rain
forecast latter this week it just had to be done. So with all the Wwoofers
on site in it went and I can tell you it felt good to get it in the
shed. Ila organised the woofers while Fiona and I ran the Farmers Market
stall. Hanaoka with the other woofers got the vehicles sorted charging
batteries etc .We drove home and we all worked to get it in. We had a few
drinks and good market food after it was a good day. I still can not
believe it is April and I have made hay ,well we do things different at
Avonstour.
One of the things that dominated my week was I some how got a badly poisoned
finger. It started with what I thought was a splinter or normal prickle but
after a day the whole finger got real fat and was spotted blue. kept me up
and then seemed to go down but come Friday night it was spotted fat red
and not happy. Friday night I got a temperature and took Disprin, got up to do
the Toastmasters International Speech Competition .Took three disprins
(thats more than I have taken all year) and did my speech. I was a bit
off my usual self but still made the Top 5. So then Fiona took me to the
walk in doctor and he has given me Antibiotics and it is getting better
No way could I picked up hay on Saturday.
It would be 10 years or more since i'v taken antibiotics as i just don't
take anything like that. But times like this and the fact the doctor said
if it gets worse you will loose your finger ..
The Framers Market was a strong one, daylight saving and good weather and the
Morris dancers . The wheat grass stall run by Jane and her mother this
week and her mother said Quote "this place is great just like a big
family ". Now how true that is the stall holders all work together and get
things done the customers know us all by name and where we live and grow
food etc. There are little squabbles just like families. BUT when some one
needs help or there is some sort of threat WE ALL STICK TIGHT TOGETHER,
and that is very real. I just love it, the support the friendship.
So with the Tree strawberry just about ripe and the latter apples good, I need
ta get on with it .
