Title: 9 June 2011
Did you get rain if not we sure got your bit........ the soil just can't take any more.
We ran the Tree fencing course and had a good attendance and met some great people and new friends. Ross came out and took photos both for us and his photo essay. I am definite all that attended went away very happy.
The market last week (Queens Birthday weekend) was the slowest i had ever seen hope you all had a good break away. My week started with getting pigs to the abattoirs and other pigs sorted to fill the gaps made. Gilts put out with the boar, lots of pigs rigged as they are starting to dig as the ground is so soft. Beate now has bronze, gold and silver pigs to look after .... must be a message in that.
The Dorset horns are well into lambing not too good with all the rain but no losses as yet.
Ruth and Ila went to Marie's with Dee to dig out trees and plants she sold to us - they spent the first half of the week planting them. We still need heaps more as we are increasing the food trees every year.
Mid week i was on the road carting meat up to jono the butcher from the abattoirs, meeting him half way on the road. After driving back i picked up more to go to Hawera, putting me on the road all day. In the dark getting home i remembered i had to shift the Wiltshire sheep as they were out of grass so after a few phone calls I went and moved them on to the hill behind the house and came home to bed. In the morning i looked out the window, my ram mob were with them having a great time with all the ewes. I had forgotten there was only a gate between the ram mob and the Wiltshire flock. The Wiltshire ram defending his girls fought the other rams on the other side of the gate - its NOT a gate now just a pile of kindling. It was a good strong Mac gate i made looks like a tank went through it. Another job.
Justin, Jamie and Wally have been helping with the back fence. It is about 800 metres long up hill and down dale winding left and right around the back gorge cutting off a large piece of land we are going to plant in food forest and native. Its a great team and we have some great talks on many topics.
Anyway tell yer more next week and I'll see ya Sunday on the plaza.
