Can you believe it - the shortest day.  The shortest day is a very important time for us, its when we start to feed out our sabbatical fallow on a normal year.  But this year is not a normal year.  It has been far warmer, far wetter, far dryer, the grass has been growing up to today even though we had more rain in the shortest gap ever.
Even with all the rain the Dorset Horns are lambing well and the Damaras have started this is a time when the shelter really pays off.
I dropped in to Jamie's and Sheryl's after the market last week to look at the new hatchings and could not believe his spuds he planted are two foot high and out of season we sure as hell could not do that here with the frost today.
Ila has brought a large poster of a world map and three darts every week she is going to throw a dart and cook us a meal that relates to that country.  Im not sure what happens when she keeps hitting the sea we are going to get sick of fish, but that's not the main worry, what if she lands on a place that eats dog or cat i will keep you posted on this we may need your help as we don't have a cat ................NO really we may need a recipe or two.
We have been sorting and carting lambs for the Bach and we hung up some for house meat. Ruth has go back with Dee and dig out more plants and has spent most of the week planting.  Early in the week her Mule (Kawasaki) was not too good but we got it to town and all it was a bolt on the drive had come loose so now its home fixed with two new back tyres with heaps of grip for the winter.
Samuel has been home from school helping Justin and I fencing the back gorge we have got about 60% of the posts in and most of them are concrete and heavy.
Neil's from up the road came and rammed strainers for us so that was a big help.
O yes I have to tell you about Beate, for some time she has been having tea with us and eating meat and yesterday she had pork YES pork.  Yes i know this all sounds normal but Beate is/was a vegetarian.  Now she is a firm Ethicatarian.
Must get to bed as its after 12 so see Ya Sunday.  John
